LACE in a SPACE

Architectural Lace
Architectural lace is an intricate way to enhance or physically separate space where a strong visual connection or impact is desired. The context is determining the image of the piece - the location and the programme of the space inspire the graphic appearance of the piece.

Handmade Spool LaceAll the works are entirely handcrafted (mostly) on the floor of the studio, weaving along the lace pattern in the same manner as the traditional bobbin lace, just enlarged. Rope is used instead of thin thread, hammer and nails in lieu of pins.
|
Lace Objects and LightComputer aided design methods allow creating shapes previously impossible to conceive by hand. With the change in scale and use of construction materials and tools, the traditional two dimensional lace are brought into a third, spatial dimension and expand their scope of functional uses.

Let's make lace COOL (again)!“While lace has always been made and used as a flat piece of fabric, either as interior decoration or in fashion, I want to subvert this conviction. Following the principles of sustainable practice it is my intent to make lace again a relevant player in the field of contemporary design and to discard its stigma of benign little doily on a grandmother’s shelf."
